英語で説明しようとすると、フラストレーションたまる。かゆいところを掻けない感じ。
ということで、今日の英語トレーニングは、画面の上の方とか下の方とかの話でした。
プレゼンのときに、画面の下の方に注目してほしいときは、
If you would look at the lower half of the screen, ...
(If you can look on... あるいは Let's look at... でもOK)
といいます。この If you would look at という表現が注目を誘うようだ。
upper/lower half of the screen (display)
right/left (hand) side of the screen (display)
箇条書きになっているスライドとか場合には、
Let's look at the bullet that start with ... とか 2nd/3rd bullet とか言うらしい。
あとは、スクロールするときは、以下のようなバリエーションがある。
scroll to the right (left)
scroll down/up
scroll horizontally/vertically/diagnally (斜めに動かすとき）
それ以外は復習モードでした。
The more you give, the more you get. (人に良くすればするほど、もっともっと何かを得られる）
という諺みたいな表現はあるけど、この The more.... , the more... の言い方は、ちょっとややこしいので普通に、
If you had more time I would sleep. (時間があれば、もっと寝ちゃうわい）
というように過去形を使うので、ほとんど十分かもという話。
ecomy-wise, time-wise というよに、Economically speaking といった、何々について言えばという意味にできるよという話。
あとは話の切り出しはやはり重要よねぇということで、
If I can backtrack to the other day,
If I can clarify
If I can add one more thing,
If you can jump aheard
If I can interrupt/interject
If I can ask something
など比較的 Positive なものには If I can が使え、もちょっとNegativeなものには、
I don't mean to get off the toppic,
Not to get sidetracked
Not to be too direct
Not to be too personal
Not to be rude
などと言ってから話を切り出すと良いとのことでした。
あとは、
You bet! (もちろん!)
